In order to kill it I had to close three tasks in Task Manager or restart. Very little on the web & no helpful description on MS list of errors.

Then I waited another 2 hours for all 252 first-round updates to show up (reasonable time considering), hid Win10 related (telemetry, compatibility and Win Update Client patches) and waited a short MS says you should wait 10-15 minutes after rebooting before doing anything else.
